A patient diagnosed with heart failure managed to survive for 100 days after receiving an artificial heart transplant.

Army.az reports, citing foreign media, that this first-of-its-kind event in the history of world medicine took place in Sydney, Australia. After a successful operation, the patient was replaced with a donor heart and regained his health. The artificial heart implanted in the patient – “BiVACOR” – was developed by Queensland bioengineer Daniel Timms. This device is distinguished by being the world’s first implantable rotating blood pump. This artificial heart, which works with magnetic levitation technology, regulates the natural blood flow in a healthy human heart.

The fact that the artificial heart can keep a patient alive for so long has raised hopes that it could be a long-term solution for people with heart failure. The device, which provides life support until a donor heart is found, is still in the testing phase and has not been officially approved for widespread use.

It should be noted that, according to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases cause approximately 18 million deaths each year.
