251 Teachers’ unions and civil rights activists, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), have sued the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit is related to President Trump’s plans to eliminate the country’s Department of Education. Trump signed the order on March 20. According to the project, the authority of the institution will be transferred to the state administration.
The lawsuit, filed in the Federal District Court in Maryland, argues that Congress has mandated the department to improve access and quality of education.
“Despite clear instructions from Congress to the Department, the Trump administration has repeatedly made its intention to close this vital agency clear,” Reuters quoted the unions as saying.
According to them, the President’s move to close the Ministry of Education is “unconstitutional and violates Congressional directives.”
The decision to eliminate the Department of Education was made by Trump as part of his spending cuts program. This is his first attempt to close a departmental-level agency.
