The editorial staff of the XDA Developers portal discovered an interesting technical notice in the new version of the Skype application: “Skype will stop working starting in May. Continue to connect with your contacts through Microsoft Teams.”
Rumors about the platform’s closure have been circulating online for a long time: Skype’s official YouTube channel has not been updated for more than seven years, and last year the company completely turned off all advertising in the messenger.
Despite financial resources and endless attempts to integrate Skype into Windows 10, Xbox, and even Windows Phone, Microsoft has failed to turn one of the most popular messengers of the 2000s into its own “FaceTime.”
Microsoft has confirmed the rumors: the service will indeed be shut down on May 5th.
